Our charity shops are our life line, run completely by volunteers. As such we’re always looking for new people to join our shop teams to help keep funds coming in, so we can continue to care for the animals. This includes not only our own, but animals from the streets.
We also try our best to help animals belonging to poor people who can’t afford to give them the care they need. Just a few hours of your time a week can make a big difference. Our shops are located in Carvoeiro, Lagoa and Ferragudo, all in need of volunteers who can spare some time to help support the animals.
If helping out in charity shops isn’t for you, there are other ways you can help. Thursdays 11am-1pm is dog walking time! We invite you to come and take one of our many dogs for a walk, and assure you we have a dog for everyone.
Children are also welcome when accompanied by adults, since we have calm dogs well suited for kids (and for people who prefer a gentle stroll!) We walk most Thursdays but please check ahead to avoid disappointment as with animals, nothing is predictable.
We’re also in need of volunteer refuge assistants, refuge maintenance, and fundraisers. As a refuge assistant you can help keep our animal spaces clean and comfy, including our kennels, cattery and stables area.
Class yourself as a bit of a handyman, or have green fingers? Refuge maintenance could be the role for you. We always need help with general maintenance and / or gardening around the refuge.
And for our fundraiser role, you can get involved with everything from collecting donations and manning stalls to organising events.
Want to get involved and help support our animals?
We’d love to hear from you and have a number of different volunteer roles in addition to our shop volunteers and dog walkers to choose from:
All volunteers must be 18 or over, and we always welcome senior volunteers.
Interested in one of our roles? Please tell us a little about yourself:
1. What sort of volunteer work would you like to do?
2. How many hours / days a week could you realistically commit to?
(Please note: any volunteer work with the animals takes place in the mornings)
3. Are you looking to be a regular volunteer or just occasional / for holidays?
(We need regular volunteers to be reliable and dedicated so we can continue giving our animals the best care possible).
4. Please add any experience you have in your preferred role.
5. Are you afraid of any animals? Please let us know.
6. Do you have any conditions that could restrict physical work?
7. Please provide your full name and email address so we can get in touch.
Once you’ve submitted your application we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
We’re always super busy running our shelter so please bear with us in responding!
